Oats contain the substance "beta-glucan". This substance binds bile acid and excretes it from the body. Cholesterol is converted so that the body can develop new bile acid. This reduces the cholesterol level. A high cholesterol level can be caused, among other things, by a high-fat diet and increases the risk of a stroke.
Oats can regulate the blood sugar level:
Beta-glucan also helps here. It prevents an excessive increase in insulin or blood sugar levels. Oats are particularly suitable for people with type II diabetes to help contain the disease. During an oat cure, type II diabetics eat almost exclusively oats for two days a month. This reduces their insulin requirement by one third. The glycemic index, which describes how much blood sugar rises when a food is consumed, is low for oat flakes and oatmeal compared to other foods. This means that oats hardly cause an increase in blood sugar.
